Modi, Macron to Jointly Launch Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice to Boost India-France Deep-Tech Collaboration

Nice/New Delhi, June 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to jointly inaugurate Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, on June 14, in a major step toward strengthening India-France cooperation in deep technology, research, innovation and start-up ecosystems.

The three-day event is being organised by the Union Ministry of Education under the India-France Year of Innovation. It aims to provide a global platform for Indian deep-tech start-ups, higher education institutions, research projects, investors and industry leaders to explore partnerships in advanced technologies, technology transfer, co-development and cross-border investment.

Ahead of the event, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released two strategic documents profiling the selected Indian start-ups and research projects that will be showcased in Nice.

120 Indian Deep-Tech Start-Ups to Showcase Innovation

Bharat Innovates 2026 will bring together 120 Indian deep-tech start-ups, 15 leading higher education institutions, and over 500 investors, venture capital firms, corporate leaders and global CEOs.

According to the Ministry of Education, the selected start-ups were chosen from more than 3,000 applicants. The cohort collectively holds over 1,500 patents and has already raised more than USD 1.5 billion in funding. The participating start-ups include established innovation-led companies such as ideaForge and Ather Energy.

The event is expected to highlight India’s growing innovation strength across several strategic sectors, including:

Strengthening India-France Innovation Partnership

The initiative is likely to support new opportunities in research collaboration, technology transfer, manufacturing partnerships, co-development of advanced solutions and cross-border investment between Indian and international innovation ecosystems.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood are also expected to attend the event.

Speaking about the initiative, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Bharat Innovates reflects India’s vision of transforming from a knowledge-consuming country into a knowledge-creating and innovation-driven economy. He described the platform as a strategic engagement opportunity and a reflection of the intellectual strength of India’s youth.

Investor Interest and Global Roadshows

The Ministry said the initiative has already generated strong investor interest. Nearly USD 20 million in commitments have either been finalised or are close to completion.

As part of the global outreach, roadshows were organised in Paris, Tokyo and Bengaluru to connect Indian start-ups with global investors, venture capital firms and industry stakeholders. These roadshows helped create visibility for India’s emerging deep-tech ecosystem and opened new channels for international collaboration.

Boost for Higher Education, Research and Start-Up Ecosystem

The participation of 15 leading higher education institutions highlights the growing role of Indian academic institutions in research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The event is expected to create stronger linkages between universities, research labs, start-ups and global industry players.

For India’s education and skilling ecosystem, Bharat Innovates 2026 reflects the increasing importance of future-ready talent in advanced sectors such as AI, semiconductors, biotech, space, clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
