NABARD - Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), also known as Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), as well as programmes in India that assist farmer training and livelihoods, receive a substantial amount of financing and support from NABARD. The mission of the NABARD is to support rural communities and agricultural endeavours throughout the United States by providing financial aid and other resources.

Funding for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs): In order to help increase the capabilities of FPOs, improve the economic conditions of rural areas, and better the way in which farmers make their living, NABARD offers financial assistance to FPOs. The following are included in the financial assistance:
  1. Seed funding: In order to assist newly established FPOs in meeting their first operational expenses and establishing their presence in the market, NABARD offers seed funding to these organisations.
  2. Promotion and Capacity Building: Financial support is provided for promotional and capacity-building initiatives for FPO members. Some examples of these activities include training, workshops, and exposure tours.
  3. NABARD is able to address the working financial needs of FPOs by providing them with revolving money. These monies also help to facilitate the aggregation, storage, and selling of agricultural produce.
  4. Market Linkage and Infrastructure: Funding is provided for the establishment of infrastructure facilities such as warehouses, cold storage units, processing units, and marketing centres. Other examples of infrastructure facilities are cold storage units.
  5. Value Addition Initiatives: NABARD provides support to FPOs so that these organisations can successfully conduct value addition activities such as grading, packing, and branding in order to increase the value of agricultural produce.
Farmer Training and Livelihood Support NABARD is also a supporter of a variety of farmer training and livelihood support initiatives, all with the goal of enhancing the capabilities and knowledge of rural areas and their farming populations. The training classes cover a variety of topics related to agriculture, including sustainable agricultural practises, financial literacy, and more. Topics also include animals. Assistance in the form of financial resources is made available to facilitate the delivery of educational courses, workshops, and demonstrations.

Schemes That Are Currently Available Through NABARD:
  1. The Producer Organisation Development Fund (PODF): The Producer Organisation Development Fund offers monetary assistance to help promote and strengthen FPOs in a number of states all across India.
  2. Tribal Development Fund (TDF): The Tribal Development Fund helps tribal communities by providing financial assistance for a variety of development programmes. These projects include skill development programmes and programmes that help people improve their means of subsistence.
  3. Rural Infrastructure improvement Fund (RIDF): The Rural Infrastructure Development Fund helps finance the construction of rural infrastructure such as roads, irrigation projects, and the improvement of water resource management, all of which are of indirect benefit to FPOs and farmers.
  4. Farm Sector Promotion Fund (FSPF): The primary objective of the Farm Sector Promotion Fund is to encourage farmers to adopt climate-resilient and environmentally responsible agricultural practises.
  5. The NABARD-Watershed Development Fund is designed to provide financial assistance to watershed development projects that are carried out in rural regions to increase the amount of usable water and agricultural output.
