HPBOSE to Launch Free Career Counselling and Skill Development Programme for Government School Students

HPBOSE Plans Free Career Counselling and Skill Development Programme for Government School Students in Himachal Pradesh

Dharamshala, May 27: The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has initiated steps to introduce a free career counselling and skill development programme for students studying in government schools across the state. The proposed initiative aims to support students in making informed academic and career choices while also connecting them with practical, employment-oriented skill development opportunities.

The programme is expected to focus on identifying students’ interests, aptitude, strengths, and future career prospects. Through structured counselling and guidance, students will be helped to understand available career pathways, higher education options, vocational opportunities, and emerging employment trends.

HPBOSE Holds Virtual Meeting to Discuss Programme Framework

A virtual meeting regarding the initiative was held at the HPBOSE office in Dharamshala under the chairmanship of HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma. The meeting was attended by the Board Secretary, officials of the academic branch, and other senior board functionaries.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the overall framework of the programme, its implementation process, and the arrangements required at the school level. The Board is working on creating a structured mechanism through which career counselling and skill development activities can be introduced effectively in government schools.

Career Guidance to Help Students Make Informed Decisions

HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma said the Board is working towards launching a free career counselling initiative to guide students according to their interests, aptitude, and future career prospects. The programme is aimed at providing proper career guidance so that students can make informed decisions about their future.

The initiative is significant as many students, particularly in government schools, may not have regular access to professional career counselling, industry exposure, or structured information about skill-based career opportunities. By introducing counselling support at the school level, HPBOSE aims to bridge this gap and help students explore suitable education and career pathways at the right stage.

Skill Development Training to Be Linked With Career Counselling

Along with career counselling, students will also be linked with skill development training and related activities. The objective is to equip students with practical and employment-oriented skills in line with future requirements.

This component is expected to strengthen the employability outlook of students by exposing them to vocational learning, skill-based training, and real-world career opportunities. The initiative aligns with the growing need to integrate academic learning with practical skills, especially at the school level.

Focus on Modern and Employment-Oriented Education

The HPBOSE Chairman said the Board is continuously striving to promote modern and employment-oriented education to prepare students for future challenges. The proposed programme reflects a broader effort to make school education more career-relevant and responsive to changing workforce needs.

By combining career counselling with skill development, the Board aims to help students not only understand their academic options but also prepare for skill-based employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and emerging career sectors.

Why This Initiative Matters

The proposed free career counselling and skill development programme can play an important role in strengthening student readiness for higher education, vocational training, and future employment. Early career guidance can help students avoid confusion, identify suitable career goals, and choose relevant academic or skill-based pathways.

For Himachal Pradesh’s government school students, the initiative may also create wider awareness about vocational education, skill development programmes, and job-oriented learning opportunities. If implemented effectively, the programme can contribute to better career planning, improved employability, and stronger alignment between school education and workforce requirements.

HPBOSE plans to introduce free career counselling and skill development programmes in Himachal Pradesh government schools to guide students on career pathways, aptitude, and employment-oriented skills.
