UGC NET June 2026: NTA Adds Four New Exam Centres in North-East, Correction Window Ends May 28

UGC NET June 2026: NTA Adds Four New Exam Centres in North-Eastern States; Correction Window Closes on May 28

New Delhi, May 28, 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has added four new examination city options in the North-Eastern region for candidates appearing in the UGC NET June 2026 examination. The move is aimed at improving accessibility for applicants from North-Eastern states, where candidates often face limited availability of nearby examination centres.

According to the latest update, candidates can modify their exam city preferences through the ongoing UGC NET June 2026 application correction window, which will remain open until May 28, 2026. The UGC NET June 2026 examination is scheduled to be conducted from June 22 to June 30, 2026, in computer-based test mode across the country.

Four New Exam Centres Added in North-East

The newly added examination centres are located in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya. These centres have been introduced to provide more convenient options to candidates from the North-Eastern region.

What Candidates Can Edit

Through the application correction facility, candidates are allowed to make changes in selected fields of the UGC NET June 2026 application form. These include:

  1. Date of birth
  2. Gender
  3. Category
  4. Sub-category
  5. Examination city preference

However, NTA has clarified that changes in mobile number, email address, photograph and signature will not be permitted during the correction window.

Exam to Be Held from June 22 to 30

The UGC NET June 2026 examination will be held from June 22 to June 30, 2026 across India. The test will be conducted in computer-based test mode for 87 subjects.

This year, the University Grants Commission has added Forestry and Statistics to the UGC NET subject list, expanding opportunities for candidates from specialised academic and research backgrounds.

Importance of UGC NET

The UGC NET is conducted twice every year, generally in June and December, by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the University Grants Commission. The examination is used to determine eligibility for:

  1. Junior Research Fellowship
  2. Assistant Professor positions
  3. Admission to PhD programmes in Indian universities and colleges

For thousands of postgraduate candidates, UGC NET remains one of the most important national-level examinations for entering higher education, research, teaching and academic careers.

Greater Access for North-Eastern Candidates

The addition of new exam centres is expected to benefit candidates from remote and geographically challenging locations in the North-East. By allowing candidates to select nearby or neighbouring state centres, the NTA’s decision may help reduce travel burden, improve participation, and support wider access to national-level higher education examinations.

The update is especially significant for aspirants from states where examination infrastructure and city options have historically been limited. Improved access to centres can help candidates focus better on exam preparation instead of logistical challenges.

Advisory for Candidates

Candidates who wish to revise their exam city choices or other permitted details should complete the correction process before the deadline on May 28, 2026. Applicants are advised to carefully verify all details before final submission, as further changes may not be allowed after the correction window closes.

Candidates should regularly check official NTA and UGC NET updates for information related to admit cards, exam city intimation slips, examination schedule and other instructions.

NTA has added four new UGC NET June 2026 exam centres in North-Eastern states. Candidates can edit exam city choices by May 28. Exams will be held from June 22 to 30.
