2. Objective of the Assignment
To conduct a Rapid Assessment of Visual Impairment (RAVI) and a Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) survey in Nabarangpur District, Odisha, targeting individuals aged 40 years and above.
3. Study Objectives
- Assess prevalence of blindness and moderate/severe visual impairment.
- Identify primary causes of vision loss.
- Evaluate spectacle coverage and barriers to uptake.
- Estimate prevalence of aphakia/pseudophakia and cataract surgical coverage.
- Analyze awareness and behavior regarding eye health services.

- Nabarangpur District, Odisha
- Predominantly tribal (55.79% ST)
- Population (2025 est.): ~1.48 million
- Rural population: ~92.82%
- Low literacy: 46.43% (female: 35.80%)
5. Methodology
- Design: Cross-sectional
- Sampling: Cluster random sampling
- Target Group: Adults aged 40+
- Sample Size: 2,400–3,200 (based on prevalence, 95% CI, design effect of 1.5, 15% non-response)
- Data Collection Team: Trained optometrists, social workers, supervised by senior researchers

- Inception meeting with donor
- Desk review and sampling design
- Questionnaire design (CommCare App)
- Team selection, training, pilot testing
- Ethical (IRB) approval (mandatory)
- Digital data collection
- Daily virtual supervision and quality monitoring
- Data cleaning, validation, and final analysis
- Final report (summary, tables, presentation)

9. Eligibility and Requirements
- Proven experience in RAAB/RAVI/RARE surveys
- Technical capability in digital data collection, IRB clearance, and rural field operations
- Qualified team: optometrists, ophthalmic assistants, social workers, research supervisors
